Founder's Story

Michael Morton is a transformative leader, ordained minister, Licensed Wedding Officiant, and passionate advocate for justice reform and reentry support. After spending over 31 years in prison, Michael’s life was radically transformed through faith, mentorship, and an unwavering commitment to personal growth. Since his release in 2018, he has become a beacon of hope for returning citizens, embodying the belief that change is not only possible but powerful.

Michael is the founder of Live In Your Purpose Today, a nonprofit reentry organization dedicated to helping formerly incarcerated individuals reintegrate into their communities. Through his work, he provides mentorship, resources, and support to empower returning citizens to rebuild their lives and achieve lasting success.  Michael is a Reentry Specialist having earned his certification through the National Reentry Workforce Collaborative.

Michael’s impact extends to his role as a lead Prison Fellowship volunteer at Sussex One State Prison, where he inspires others with his story of redemption and resilience. As an ordained minister through Faith Landmark, he offers spiritual guidance and encouragement to those seeking a new path. During his incarceration, Michael laid the foundation for his advocacy, earning his GED, serving on the Reentry Committee, and facilitating restorative justice and victim impact classes. He also collaborated with Dr. Howard Zehr, a pioneer of restorative justice, co-facilitating circle processes to promote healing and accountability.

A proud husband, father, and grandfather, Michael is an active member of First Baptist Church of Hopewell and is deeply engaged in his community. His dedication to service has led him to work with law enforcement, speaking encouragement and offering prayer to police departments in Virginia, and mentoring men returning from incarceration. In addition, Michael is a Licensed Wedding Officiant, helping couples celebrate their union with joy and meaning.

Michael’s journey is a testament to the transformative power of faith, purpose, and perseverance. He is committed to empowering others to discover their own potential and live lives of purpose, proving that no matter where you start, it’s never too late to create a meaningful future.
